FAQ
When should I arrive?
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to you appointment time so you have time to check in, fill out paper work and undress for your treatment. If you are late, every effort will be made to accommodate you, but please be aware that lateness could reduce the length of your appointment.
Why should I get a massage?
Massage therapy can ease tension and help you cope with stress more effectively. It slows the racing mind, helps people live in their bodies more comfortably, and contributes to a sense of well-being. Massage increases circulation and mobility, eases pain, and is thought to strengthen the immune system. Besides all of those reasons, Massage feels wonderful!
I have never had a massage. What should I expect?
On your first appointment, you will be given a confidential health history form to complete; it usually takes a few minutes. You will be taken to the treatment room, the therapist will answer any questions you have and leave you to undress.
Please remember to turn any cell phones, pagers, or alarms off before your session.
Most people undress completely, though underwear may be worn if you prefer. Your modesty is respected at all times. You will be properly covered with a sheet during the entire session, and only the area the therapist is working on will be uncovered. Pressure is based on your comfort; tell your therapist if you need more or less pressure during the session. When the massage is complete, the therapist will leave you to slowly get up and dress.
What parts will you massage?
A typical full-body massage includes work on you back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, face, shoulders and gluteus area. However, if you find you are uncomfortable being massaged in a particular area, just inform the therapist and she will adjust the massage accordingly. You will not be touched on your breasts (women), or on or near your genitals. All massages at Ambiance Massage & Spa are non-sexual in nature. The therapist has the right to terminate a session in which a client behaves inappropriately. You, as the client have the same right.
What should I do during the massage?
Relax! Other than asking you to adjust your position so the therapist can apply a specific technique; you can change positions at any time to make yourself more comfortable. Many clients just close their eyes and completely relax. Others like to talk during their session. The therapist will follow your lead.
Does massage hurt?
Massage on healthy tissue feels good. However, you may have areas that are tight or have lumps. When these areas are massaged you may experience some discomfort. If you experience pain during the massage, let the therapist know and she will adjust the pressure according to your limits.
Is it okay to tip? Are tips expected?
Tips are gratefully accepted, never expected. The same excellent service is provided to everyone regardless.
What should I expect after massage?
Massage can be profoundly relaxing, affecting all your body’s systems. Give yourself time to re-orient before you sit up. After an initial “relaxation” period, people often experience an increase in energy that can last several days. Sometimes people are sore after massage, especially after deep therapeutic work. This is normal, and should go away in a day or two, especially if you drink plenty of water.
